Build a stem-and-leaf plot from any data set. Toggle back-to-back mode to compare two groups side by side. Works with integers and decimals.
Value = Stem × 10 + Leaf
A stem-and-leaf plot displays quantitative data while preserving each individual data value. Each data point is split into a stem (leading digit(s)) and a leaf (final digit).
For two-digit numbers, the tens digit is the stem and the units digit is the leaf. For three-digit numbers, the hundreds digit may be the stem and the last two digits the leaf (or units digit the leaf with tens as the stem).
Leaves within each stem are sorted in ascending order, so you can read the ordered data directly from the plot.
A back-to-back stem-and-leaf plot compares two groups. Stems are in the center, the first data set's leaves branch to the left, and the second data set's leaves branch to the right.
This display makes it easy to compare the shape, center, and spread of two distributions side by side.
